About Sheriff Tim Burkhalter

Thank you for electing me as your Sheriff. During the upcoming election season, I am seeking your help again in order to be re-elected as your Sheriff of Floyd County, Georgia.

In my 27 years of law enforcement experience, I have had the opportunity to do and achieve many things. Among these are:

  • Served 7 years as Sheriff
  • Completed many hours of POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) instruction
  • Certified by the FBI and U.S. Marshals as a bomb tech and a fugitive investigator
  • Certified as a POST instructor
  • Studied Criminal Justice at Jacksonville State University
  • Hired as a jail officer and have ascended the ranks as I worked under 3 different sheriffs

In addition to my achievements, I have been blessed to serve in a number of professional roles beyond the office of Sheriff for which the people of Floyd County elected me. During the past few years, I have:

  • served as President of the North Georgia Law Enforcement Executives
  • served as an officer on the Blood Assurance Board of Directors
  • been a member of the Community Criminal Justice Foundation
  • founded Cops for Kids

During the time that I have served as a law enforcement officer, I have been recognized many times. Some of the recognitons I have received include:

  • twice named Officer of the Year
  • inducted into the Rome/Floyd Recreation Authority Hall of Fame
  • recipient of the Susan B Anthony Volunteer of the Year award

During my time as your Sheriff, I have endeavored to make a positive contribution to the communities of Rome and Floyd County. Our motto at the Sheriff’s Office has been “Positive in our Community,” which I see as my duty to the communities I serve as Sheriff. While serving as your sheriff, and in order to maintain a more positive influence on our communities, I have created and continue to oversee many community-orented programs:

  • Sheriff’s Shootout benefitting the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes
  • Zombieland Haunted House benefitting both Youth Initiative Programs and the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes

As your sheriff, I thank you for the opportunity you have given me to serve our community. It is my hope that in the years ahead, that I may continue the good work that I have started as your Sheriff so that the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office may continue to truly be “Positive in our Community.”
